my review of my book cover

What was the theme for the project?
The theme of the project was to create a child's book cover for a poem book called grisly and ghastly. the book is about children's poems turned on its head. so the challenge is to create a book cover to show what is in the book but not give to much away
How have you developed your ideas? How did your work change through the project?

I have developed my ideas a lot through this project changing my ideas to better idea i started from small thumbnail drawings to small A5 drawings then i started to go into more detail and more depth with my drawings then i final draw my final piece full size. So did and changing the text from hand drawn to type and changing my background. so my ides have changed a lot through out my work especially my background as at the start it was a plain background and not a very interesting but i started to fiddly around with different backgrounds then i final decided to go with a gradient colour from red to black for my background to give it a evil look and feel. also my wolf has changed as i have made it darker and more faded in to the background to give the wolf a misty feeling and a evil look
I did rely on sir for the material but next time i will go in my own time to get materials for my next project so i should have done more, so next time for my next product i will do a lot more research to give my level a higher level and this will pull up my main level higher
The artist used a paint called Gouache to colour his pieces of work in that it was very loose and not perfect in that it went over the lines and not fully coloured. i used the Scott Campbell's technic for my wolf as it gave the wolf a wolfy look and and feel it also gave my wolf the look it needed
My study were okay but i wanted to explore more into the front cover designs. i would liked to go into the front cover designs a bit more detail and explore with different ideas
the materials i used was just paper and ink to get the design
the meaning of my front cover is to scare and the message is to tell what the book was about i was successful in my text and background
I am happy with my final pice of work as it brings a lot of different element together and my favorite element is the background an the faded wolf, with the large and powerful title to stand out but at the same time it blend together to give it a smooth look
How much reference material did you find? Do you think you should have done more or less

I used a lot reference but most of it was of sir so i did rely on him a lot for the materials but know i know i need to do more research by myself to help push up my level so that is one area i need to work on in my next project
What artists or designers have you looked at to help and inspire you?
I had a look at Scott Campbell's work i liked it so i tried his technics on my main background image to give it a more free drawing and a bit more loose drawing, i took his ideas and used them in my own way as i used it to colour my wolf and draw the outline
What materials, tools and techniques did these artists use?

i used paper to make most of it also ink to draw my wolf this was good as it gave my wolf a good look of a wolf and that it gave it a look of fur
How have your skills developed during the project?
my skill have increased in photoshop and in that type of work also in the drawings, so my skills in photoshop have improved as that i know what i need to do to get an effect also i know what it does when i do something
Are there any aspects of your studies that you wish you had explored further?

i would liked to explore more in the book its self to get more details also explore more on front covers from different books
How have you used formal elements such as line, tone, colour and shape?
I have used many types of tone through out my pieces of work most of my work is in black and red and the use of zombified as my main text font
What meaning and messages did you want to convey and were you successful?

i think that my front cover displayed my message very well as it showed what the book was about and it gave it a feel of evil and scary look
Are you happy with your final piece? Are there any elements you like in particular?

i am very happy with my final piece as it worked out very well for me and that it was easier then i thought it would have been i think my best thing is the text as it stood out from the rest
Is there anything you would change? Why?
i would change my background image as it needs to be a bit more clean and clearer to see and make it a bit more bright to stand out from the back
